• Jenny Craig started in 1983 and offers a comprehensive program that helps clients increase their energy, eat foods they want ad have a balanced life. It does involve buying their pre-packaged food and going to classes and working with a consultant.

• Nutrisystem® is a program that also has pre-packaged meals. Their program features low GI foods and the right amount of protein to keep blood sugars stable.

• The South Beach Diet™ is a form of low-carb diet. They encourage you to choose the right type of carbohydrates such as whole grains, and the right fats and proteins. They have special tools, recipes and meal plans customized to the client.

• The Atkins Diet is low carb high protein program. They claim that their program takes off more fat than programs with similar calorie intake.

• Low GI diets started around 1981 and were originally designed for diabetics to maintain stable blood sugar levels.

• Optifast® is a program designed to completely replace food without adding extra vitamins or supplements.

• Slim-Fast is another meal replacement program based on the premise that meal replacement products help people lose weight.

• Low carb diets. This diet requires that your diet be low in carbohydrates and higher in protein. These diets claim to help your body access the fat stores to burn as energy.

• Fat Loss 4 Idiots is the hottest diet around at the moment. Books selling like crazy and lots of success stories. This program believes that not all foods are created equal and you gain weight because you eat the wrong types of food with the wrong types of calories and at the wrong patterns in the day. They say that you can lose 9 pounds in just 11 days!

You'll have to decide what plan looks like you can stick to it. Do you want to go to meetings for support? Is online support enough? I hate to go to meetings myself so the program I use doesn't have meetings, just a book to follow. I hope the top 10 diets facts have been a help. I wish you every success.
